The police in Gulu have said that they are investigating a new breed of conmen who are suspected to be stealing using Mobile Money services.

The officer in charge of crimes at Gulu Central Police station, James Asubu confirmed the vice saying that the conmen have already infiltrated Gulu town.

Asubu says the conmen contact business men whom they know are able to give out money easily and they portray themselves as suppliers of commodities.

” After talking to the business men, they demand for part payment which they say should be sent to them through Mobile money” Asubu says

“After payment is made, the conmen withdraw the money and immediately switch off their phones.” He adds

He also notes that they have received over 3 cases which they are investigating.

The police officer urges the community to avoid giving their money to strangers .
