A hacker has distributed confidential memos sent to the former Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton on Benghazi to the public in a new cyber attack.
The hacker, who is known as Guccifer hacked into the email account of a confidant of Clinton, Sidney Blumenthal who once worked as a senior White House adviser to former president, Bill Clinton. The emails were sent to several public political figures, including journalists.
Those who received the information were sent four separate memos which had been e-mailed to Clinton by Blumenthal during the past five months. Each memo talked about the developments in Libya, including the September 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi. One memo marked “Confidential” was sent to Clinton on September 12.
Attachments to the email were copied and pasted into separate new files. Screen grabs of the new files were made and e-mailed to those intended to see the email. The e-mails appear to have been sent from the hacked AOL account of the wife of a Hollywood actor, a tactic, which “Guccifer” has used before.
FBI is currently conducting an investigation to figure out who the hacker is. Two IP addresses connected to the hacker’s recent online maneuvers have been traced to the Russian Federation.
