The Mukono district  environmental department  in conjunction with Mukono police has closed a battery manufacturing company located in Mbalala Mukono district following complaints that its fumes have turned to be a hazard to people’s lives.

This came after  angry residents  turned into mob camping at this factory demanding an explanation from its owners as to why they are paying a deaf hear to their complaints.

The residents claim that they cough blood  while pregnant women  and animals are experiencing constant miscarriages.They attribute this to the fumes from the  battery factory.

However, efforts to get a comment from the factory owner only identified as Najab were fruitless.

The district environmental officer Anna Nakimbugwe has said that this factory has been closed until the owners settle the residents’
problem.
