City tycoon Hassan Basajjabalaba on Wednesday had his bail reinstated .The Anti-Corruption Court had canceled Basajjabalaba’s bail a week back under exceptional circumstances.
While reinstating the bail for the businessmen, High Court judge Catherine Bamugemereire said that Magistrate Akankwasa was wrong to cancel the bail of Hassan Basajabalaba and his brother Muzamiru Basajjabalaba under the pretext of exceptional circumstances.
Bamugemereire said that if magistrate Akankwasa felt there exceptional circumstances surrounding this case, it should have been the state to raise such issues with the defense lawyers replying before such a decision could be taken.
Basajjabalaba was told to deposit a land title without mortgage with the court and report to court once every two weeks.
A group of his supporters waited outside court to receive him .
Basajjabalaba together with his brother Muzamiru Basajjabalaba are accused of forging a consent judgement that led to the payment of more than Shs142 billion following the cancellation of his market tenders in the city by the government.
