Gulu district Education Authorities have come up with a strong solution that will bar Non-Governmental organizations and other organization from taking children out of Gulu district for studies.
This has come out after over 297 pupils who were allegedly recruited by a Non Organization called Burden Powel in Luzira Kampala with the promise of free education were found to be languishing without food.
The children were returned to Gulu early this week to their respective homes.
Now, John Okwonga, the Gulu district Secretary for Education and Health told reporters in Gulu that they have realized that the by- law that was passed in 2008 that prohibits Organizations from taking children for studies outside their district was not being put into use.
Okwonga said that they have decided that the By-law should be put to use and that all the local leaders should be vigilant about it.
Okwonga also said that they will soon begin sensitizing parents against sending their children outside the district for studies.
Okwonga also wondered that, “You can imagine, some of the children who were sent by parents are less than 5 years to study in Kampala”.
The Gulu secretary for Education also called on Parents to report any organization recruiting children for studies outside Gulu district.
He also called on them to query those organizations if their presences are known by the district authorities.
Nabinson Kidega James, the Gulu district Residence district Commissioner when commenting on the matter said that they were already having a list of fake organizations who were recruiting children for free education from Gulu and that they will soon begin arresting them.
