According to a children rights body, ANPPCAN Uganda, approximately 600 children in Uganda are defiled every month.

Research coordinator, ANPPCAN, Ruth Birungi.
ANPPCAN asked Government to form a commission of inquiry into the rising cases of defilement. “Last year 2012 we had 742 cases of defilement. Between 2009 and 2011 police received 22,614 defilement cases. At least 628 children are defiled per month country-wide,” research coordinator, Ruth Birungi said.
Ms. Birungi made the comments during a news conference yesterday, Thursday in Kampala citing the penal code Act section 2129 which was amended to include tough penalties like death penalty for the defilers. Despite this fact, Ms. Birungi said judicial officers have continued to hand out light sentences to the offenders.
