World’s oldest marathoner, Fauja Singh aged 101 finished his last competitive race Monday.
Singh who lives in London started his career in 2000 to overcome a family tragedy after his wife passed way and his fifth son. He was aged 89 years at the time. Today however, what started out as therapy has seen him earn a name in the Guinness World Records and he has completed eight marathons since he started running.
“I am happy that I am retiring at the top of the game, but I am sad that the time has come for me to not be part of it,” he said. Although he no longer plans to run competitively, Singh still intends to run for charities if asked.
He became became the oldest full-marathon runner after completing the Toronto marathon in 5 hours and 40 minutes in 2011.
