By Emmanuel Omona PaOkech

Women in Lamogi sub county in Amuru district have appealed to their Members of parliament from Acholi sub region to pass a law that would regulate the time for the bar owners to operate.

The women made their call for help in Amuru district yesterday and emphasized the need for immediate action on the matter .

They claimed that  there are many bars cropping up in their area which they say have hindered the development of their homes since most of their husbands spent all their time there.

They maintained that most of the activities have been left with them while the men drink all their money they get from farming.

Suzan Laker, one of the women told Uganda Picks that some of the youth are also getting married to alcohol.

“Most of the youth are getting married to Sachet alcohol leaving many responsibilities to the rest of the family members”, Laker explained.

Joyce Agenorwot another mother of two  said that there were already some women from Buganda and Bunyoro region who were allegedly engaged in prostitution.

A man who preferred to be identified  as Okello  tried to defend the men stating that they have less work during the dry season.

Okello added that it was normal for a man to be idle during the dry period after harvesting crops from the garden.

“I know only in the past when men could go Hunting far away in the dry season but now we cannot do that since hunting has been restricted”, Okello explained.
