The woman who allegedly accidentally run over her husband with a car and killed him has been arrested by police.
Jackline Nsenga accidentally ran over her husband, Juvenal Nsenga with a car when she came back home in the early hours of the morning last month after he opened for her the gate. She has been detained at the Special Investigations Unit in Kireka since Saturday on charges of manslaughter. If convicted, she will be sentenced to life imprisonment.
According to the deputy police spokesperson, Mr. Vicent Ssekate, the investigations have reached a critical stage that requires detention of the suspect. “The suspect was detained because the investigation had reached the stage where it was necessary to have the suspect in custody, to deepen investigations, and also for the suspect to assist the police with the investigation,” Mr Ssekate said.
Mrs. Nsenga at the time said that the accident was not intentional.
During the funeral service of the deceased, Nsenga’s relatives asked the police not to investigate the case and some said they had forgiven their in-law, because they believed it was an accident. Despite the fact that they said it was an accident, police said an investigation had to be carried out. “The IGP directed the Deputy Director of CID, Mr Geoffrey Musana, to personally take up the investigation, and to ensure that justice is done to all parties involved,” Mr Ssekate said yesterday.
Talking during the requiem mass, Jackie said, “I stand before you today thanking God for the gift of my husband and children. This is the most difficult moment in my life. I thank God for the 18years of my marriage and the two children he blessed us with. I thank my in-laws for being there for me. It is not easy for me to stand before you, but believe me this is the cross I have to carry for the rest of my life,” Jackie Nsenga said.
“Nsenga, was not only a husband, he was a father to my children, a son to my in-laws, friend to many and a pillar of the family. Jade and Jamin, I know how it feels to grow up without a father but I am sorry,” she went on to add.
