UTODA has purchased 200 buses to ply different routes across Kampala city shortly after Uganda Revenue Authority impounded Pioneer Easy Buses due to the accumulation of taxes amounting to shs7 billion.
UTODA announced early this month announced that it was bringing buses to phase out taxis which they say cause traffic jam in the city.
The Uganda Taxi Operators and Drivers Association has brought in metropolitan buses, which in effect will kick start the phasing out of commuter-taxis that have been a part of Kampala’s transport system for the last 25 years.
Utoda’s National Chairman John Ndyomugyenyi says ,once the taxis are to move out of the Kampala metropolitan area and start transporting passengers from villages to various bus terminals on the outskirts of the city.
