The Uganda National Examination Board General Secretary ,Mathew Bukenya yesterday saluted the 2012 UACE candidates for the good performance.
While releasing the results yesterday in Kampala, UNEB general secretary, Mathew Bukenya stated that there was a high percentage of candidates (99.3%) who qualified for the award of UACE compared to 99.2% in 2011.
Bukenkya added that the number of candidates who sat for 2012 UACE exams increased compared to the previous years.
He also noted that arts subjects were well performed compared to sciences with males excelling in Entrepreneurship, IRE, CRE, Geography, Literature in English, Agriculture and Biology with more principal passes realized in Entrepreneurship chemistry, biology, history, geography.Other subjects registered drops in principal pass rate.
He says that results of 404 candidates have been withheld from 7 centers due to malpractice.
Relatedly the minister of education and sports Jessica Alupo expressed happiness about the increase in the number of candidates mounting to 7,769 qualified for admission in tertiary institution.
She however warned teachers who waste time doing personal work than teaching students which ,the vice which has resulted into failure to complete the syllabus. She challenged private schools to step up efforts in teaching science subjects to enable the country register more scientists as it was requested by the president.
