Uganda’s Foreign Affairs Minister ,Sam Kutesa has been endorsed by East African Community Member States for Presidency of the 69th Session of the United National General Assembly 2014-2015.
During an EAC Sectoral Council of Foreign Policy Coordination meeting held in Tanzania over the weekend ,members resolved to endorse and mobilize support for Kutesa’s candidature.
The Council approved several other EAC candidatures including Kenya’s bid for the Non-Permanent seat at the UN Security Council for the period 2017-18. Elections are due late 2016 and Uganda is contesting for the post with Cameroon.
Uganda’s bid for the post could also be boosted by the fact that the last Greater East African to head the assembly was Tanzania’s Salim Ahmed Salim, in 1979.
