Ugandans will start getting their Identity cards from April this year -2013 ,the State Minister for Internal affairs has announced.
Minister James Baba told the journalists over the weekend that now more than ever government is committed to see that all Ugandans get their IDs like all other East African Community natives.
Baba said that the ministry of internal Affairs will work with the Electoral Commission ,which will help in providing some data of citizens from voters registers ,and the ministry of Defense which he said will specifically provide man power.
The minister however stated that the data from the Electoral commission registers will first be screened to see that all the people who are given Identity cards are real Ugandan citizens.
“By April this year ,there will be a National Identity card Delivery Centre in Kampala where Ugandans will be able to get their IDS.” Said Minister James Baba.
Meanwhile the German Firm Muhlbauer Technology which was contracted to do the work in 2010 will continue working with the ministry of internal affairs,the electoral commission and the UPDF because its contract is still running.
