Three girls have been killed in India. The three girls were sisters aged between the age of five to eleven.
Police in India now is searching for the men suspected of the murders.
India at the time is fighting indecent assault of girls and women which is often coupled with murder. A 24-year-old woman was also assaulted indecently and murdered by a group of four men whose case is currently still in court.
According to Javed Ahmed, the three sisters’ bodies were found in a village well in Bhandara district in Maharashtra state on Feb. 14 after they had gone missing from school. The area where the girls were found is more than 1,000 kilometers (630 miles) south of New Delhi, the capital.
The victims’ mother accused police of a shoddy investigation and villagers protested on Wednesday demanding justice. “The police did not take the case seriously and did nothing for two days,” the mother was quoted as saying. One police officer has been suspended for not acting promptly, Indian Heavy Industries Minister Praful Patel said. “It is unacceptable. All of us have to hang our heads in shame,” Patel said.
Cabinet Minister, Manish Tewari said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was sending 1 million rupees ($18,300) to the family.
Police have identified some suspects, including the family’s tenant. Arti Singh, the district superintendent of the police said, “We’ve got some strong, solid indications [about the suspects], and we’re working very hard,” she said.
