Tarehe Sita Celebrations have kicked off in Arua district.

Tarehe Sita, which refers to February 6, 1981, commemorates the first armed attack on Kabamba barracks, starting a five-year guerrilla war that ended with January 26, 1986 take over of power by the NRM government.

Arua district was chosen to host the national celebration but other districts across the country will honour the day in different ways.

The Gulu’s UPDF 4th division spokesperson Lt Isaac Oware said the before the celebration, the army from the 4th Division will carry out sanitation in Gulu, Oyam, Nwoya and Amuru districts.

Lt. Oware said that activities that started from Anaka hospital yesterday will be done in Amuru, Kole and Oyam. In other districts soldiers are expected to mark the day by cleaning around the community.
