Schools have today re-opened for the new academic year, 2013 officially.
Most boarding schools saw students report for their first term of the new academic year yesterday, Sunday 3rd January while students commuting from home have started school today.
However, most schools are still empty with fewer students in class rooms today. In some schools like Makerere College School and Buganda Road Primary Schools, among others, there is less than a half students in school already but less activity in the schools for the first day at school. Few students have so far reported for their first day.
Parents explained that this was because most schools have hiked their tuition fees in addition to changing rules from beginning on the first day, regardless of how much you have paid to every student should have paid at least half of the tuition fees.
Long lines characterize banks as parents, and students line up to go and bank their school fees at their designated banks.
In Kampala, there are fewer students going to school meaning less traffic jam therefore no transport increments. However, students or passengers with school luggage are charged an extra sh2, 000 or sh15, 000 for their luggage.
The new academic term has begun just a week to S.1 students reporting to their respective schools.
