Authorities in Purongo Sub County in Nwoya district are celebrating the reduction in crimes in their sub county which they say has greatly reduced since the beginning of the year.

Lakony Francis Okumu the area LC3 chairperson  on Thursday noted that in the course of early January 2013,  seven notorious suspected thieves were arrested and taken away from the sub county leaving the area in peace.

He said that the seven  men were suspected to have been behind a number of robberies along the Karuma-Pakwach Highway.

Lakony also noted that most of the residents feared travelling alone in the late hours of the night.

The Chairman noted that since the 7 suspected thieves were arrested, there have been free movements of residents even in the late hours of the night.

Margaret Ocili 35, a resident of the area highly appreciates the move taken by the Nwoya district Authorities in improving on  security.

The sub county used to register 10 to 15 cases of theft, assault and arson on a daily basis.
