Etienne Kabila was charged with plotting to overthrow Joesph Kabila’s government .Etienne also claims DRC’s current President ,Joseph Kabila is not the true son of the late Laurent Kabila and claims to be the true son.
However ,his claims have all been dismissed by Joseph Kabila’s government,BBC reports
Etienne Kabila handed himself in to police in South Africa over the weekend.
He was not asked to enter a plea and the case was postponed until Thursday, when his case will be joined to that of the other 19 rebels who were charged last week.
Prosecutors said they belonged to the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Union of Nationalists for Renewal (UNR) rebel group and Etienne Kabila is said to be the rebel leader.
The group is accused of seeking weapons and military training to topple President Joseph Kabila and was subject to a special police sting operation.
“They intended on unseating President Kabila unconstitutionally,” government prosecutor Shaun Abrahams told the Pretoria Regional Court.
The prosecution says it has video, audio, pictorial and other evidence to prove its case.
When the trial is over in South Africa, the group will be extradited to Kinshasa, according to the National Prosecution Authority.
