Journalists in Northern Uganda are mourning the untimely  death of their colleague James Eriku, who was affiliated to the Daily Monitor.

The Late James Eriku who was the Gulu Monitor Bureau Chief collapsed and died last Sunday at around 8:00PM while in his compound.

According the deceased’s wife Sylvia Apiyo, Eriku started sweating profusely at night from his bed and walked to the sitting room for fresh air where he died on the chair shortly at around 10:00pm.

A postmortem carried out by Dr Charles Madrama show that he died of heart failure and blood clot in the liver.

Dominic Ochola, the Deputy News Editor for Rupiny news paper in Lira who was shocked said it was very sad, regrettable and untimely death indeed.

Moses Odokonyero, the president of the journalist under the Northern Uganda Media Club [NUMEC] said James Eriku passed on when he still had immense opportunities to realize his full potential in the sometimes less rewarding but ultimately gratifying field of journalism.

Odokonyero noted that the media fraternity in the north has lost a promising, committed and persevering member.

James Eriku was born in 1977 and had his O’Level at Monsignor Bala, Moyo SS in 1996 and sat from Kampala SS in 1998 for his A- level.

He attained a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Makerere University in 2003.

He is survived by a wife and three children.
