By Jane Nambi

The life of the Makerere University Vice Chancellor is in danger after students threatened to bring him harm over the new fees policy which requires that students pay at least 60% of the fees before sitting for any course work or examination.

Police has now provided security for the vice-chancellor both at his home and at the office at the university after the threat.

The threat was not only for the Vice Chancellor but also other university officials. According to Samuel Omara of Kampala Metropolitan police, police has provided security, in case the students actually fulfill their threat of harming the vice-chancellor.

Students went on their second strike on Monday after giving the university administration a week ultimatum to solve the problem and remove the new fees police. However, the administration did not do anything which angered the students and went again on strike.

On Monday, students once again looted shops as they caused chaos in Wandegeya where the university is found. Police made arrests of some of the students who were said to have started the strike.
