By Sandra Birungi

About 70 residential houses in Mbuya were demolished by police.

According to one of the residents, some men came at night and started demolishing the houses and police stood by without doing anything. She said that it seemed as though the police were there with the men who had come to demolish the houses.

However, Afande Weasely denied the claims saying police was there to protect the people, not demolish houses. ‘There are land wrangles everywhere, it is common but police is not here to demolish houses, it is here to keep law,” he said.

There were land wrangles on the said land whose houses were demolished between the residents and Indians. The case was allegedly taken to court and the residents won the case.
