Oscar Pistorious four-day bail application hearing has ended today with Chief Magistrate, Desmond Nair granting him bail.
Pistorious is facing murder charges of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp who he allegedly shot by mistake thinking she was an intruder. She died from the bullets almost immediately.
The judge gave several reasons as to why he granted the 26-year-old bail. Among them was the fact that he did not consider Pistorious a flight risk like the prosecution had argued. He also did not think that prosecution had shown that Pistorius had a propensity for violence neither did they show there would be public outrage if he had been released on bail. In brief, Judge Nair did not think prosecution had proven that the accused would flee upon being granted bail.
29-year-old Reeva was shot and killed by Pistorious on valentine’s day 14th February 2013 in his home after he mistook her for an intruder.
Despite rumors that the two were not happy, friends close to the couple beleived that Reeva and Pistrious were indeed happy. Reeva was laid to rest this week in a private ceremony. Her body was cremated. Pistorious did not attend the funeral as he was in court for his bail application.
