By Sandra Birungi

National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders have been urged to confront the problem which parliament is facing concerning members of parliament (MP) snubbing parliamentary meetings.

Absenteeism in parliament is a major issue in parliament. While addressing journalists on Wednesday, government Chief Whip, Justine Kasule Lumumba said that it’s sad to see that the House of 375 Legislatures is sometimes empty when  they were elected to perform Constitutional duties.

She went ahead and warned members who register in both plenary and committee and leave almost immediately.

Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga was forced to adjourn the House prematurely after failing to have a quorum that is required to take a decision because less than 50 MPs were present out 375 which could not make two-thirds which is required by law.

On Tuesday, only 45 attended the plenary.
