The mother to the Butaleja Woman MP-elect, Florence Andiru Nebanda ,Alice Namulwa,  has denied beating up a policeman during the campaigns for the Butaleja by-elections .

Namulwa says she  mistook the policeman for thug and therefore acted in self defence.Namulwa was on Monday also  defended by her daughter ,Florance Andiru Nebanda .

Nebanda ,now the  Butaleja Woman MP elect said that her mother was confronted by a man in civilian clothes and did not know that it was a policeman.

Police alleges that on Thursday last week ,Namulwa stormed  Kachonga police post together with the supporters of her daughter, Florence Andiru Nebanda, the NRM flag bearer  in the Butaleja by-election, and beat-up a police detective she found at the post.

Godfrey Odongo, the Malaba Regional Police spokesperson told  the press that the detective, whose names were not revealed , was trying to intervene in a fracas that erupted between Nebanda’s supporters and those of Betty Hamba, one of the independent candidates.

Police says she should answer for assault charges.
