Aswa county member of parliament Regan Okumu has opposed to the idea of creating the Nile republic out of Uganda as stated by some MPs from Acholi region this week.
Speaking to reporters at parliament on Wednesday ,Hon Okumu said that there is a sense of togetherness among Ugandans but its frustration that makes the leaders feel that they should be independent.
He added that the solution to the problems in the north is not moving away from the rest of the country but changing the government that has failed to recognize the northern region.
He also said that all tribes in Uganda have had historical social linkages and those linkages cannot be broken just because of a government that can be changed.
He further urged Ugandans to come out and demand for what belongs to them rather than thinking of having the creation of other countries out of Uganda which is even small.
Meanwhile other northern region MPs who included Beatrice Anywar and Olanya Gilbert have started on the process of collecting the signatures from their districts in support of the view of the creation of the Nile Republic.
According to these MPs the problems in the north are too much and they can only be solved if they are separated from Uganda.
The MPs say that they have been neglected for long by government and they can no longer trust anymore.
