Kyadondo East MP Ibrahim Semuju has accused Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) of leading the drive against environmental pollution by careless dumping of garbage in Kitezi.
Hon Semuju said that Mukwano industries was once closed for emitting fumes at a lower level which is not anywhere near the pollution like that of Kitezi . He also added that Even NEMA shows that KCCA is one of the biggest polluters of the environment in Uganda.
“KCCA should show that it is not selectively targeting wetland developers” Semujju said
He also added that a lot can be done at Kitezi landfill than dumping garbage there by KCCA. “It is worth to explore the possibility of privatizing our own landfill operations in such a way that a private firm manages the site and charges a tipping fee”Hon Semuju noted
He also revealed that there are issues arising at Kitezi due to the presence of KCCA in the area which includes the poor infrastructure like bad roads, rampant fatal accidents which have occurred as a result of waste collection vehicles and the bad state of roads, the increased noise from increased traffic and vehicles movements and earth moving equipments and degraded quality of life for surrounding residential areas among others.
Hon Semuju further advised residents of Wakiso to pull up and evict KCCA from the swampy location.
Kitezi village were KCCA dumps garbage covers an area of about 29 acres.
