Kampala Lord Mayor Ertias Lukwago has threatened not to preside over any meeting in KCCA intending to pass the KCCA budget if the Executive Director Jenifer Musisi doesn’t give out the accountability of the money allocated to KCCA for the previous financial years.
Lukwago revealed this on a one day Kampala fact finding tour with Members of parliament.
He told MPs led by Kalungu district woman MP Florence Kintu that KCCA has been allocating a lot of money to develop different parts of Kampala but nothing has been done and there is no accountability for the money.
The lord mayor cited out the 5billion shillings which was allocated to reconstruct Kafumbe Mukasa road in Kampala but the road is still in a sorry state . He added that KCCA also approved a total of 2.4billion shillings for maintaining Kitenzi were KCCA dumps garbage but no work has been done in the area and no accountability has been given .
“People have been saying that am struggling for power in KCCA which is not true. We want quality services and accountability for the money in the authority. We want value for money. The company called Otanda Company limited was awarded the contract of maintaining Kitenzi but when you reach the area, it is unhealthy to the residents” He added
He also added that KCCA was given 45billion shillings to reconstruct all the roads in Kampala but no any road has been reconstructed.
Mean while MPs also castigated to KCCA boss for deliberately refusing to reconstruct Kafumbe Mukasa road yet the money was specifically allocated for this road.
MPs who included Betty Nambooze, Charoline Birungi, Moses Kasibante, Bbosa Kiyingi, and Rafeal Magyezi among others said that they are going to write a report pinning Jenifer Musisi for deliberately refusing to reconstructing roads in the city.
