The Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago is being investigated by the the Inspector General of government for allegedely extorting money from a Chinese firm ,Foton East Africa (U) to approve the construcion a motor showroom in Kampala City.
According to the Chinese company ,Sarah Kanyike ,Lukwago’s assistant on behalf of her boss promised to facilitate the approval of a show room on Plot 42 ,Nile avenue ,the building which was last year demolished still under construction for being in a road reserve.
Foton company in its petition pinning the Lord Mayor for extortion says “
Kanyike delivered to us a letter demanding rental payment of US$512 per month running for five years which was to cover the term of tenency for the road reserve .This totaled US$30,720 .Mr Lee and Miss Lydia delivered the money to Sarah Kanyike who received them in the Lord Mayor’s office .We were promised to have the reciepts the same day in the afternoon but up todate we have never recived the reciepts .”
The company in its petition also claims it lost a lot of money when the building was demolished ,the money for paying th contractors and the anticipated sales .It is seeking an intervention to recover the money.
