Makerere University students have gone on strike protesting the University administration’s direction that students pay 60% of their tuition by March.
According to sources from the Public University , the students argue that the decision is unfair since the fees were recently hiked .They also attribute the initiative to the Vice Chancellor ,Dumba Sentamu.
The strike began on Monday morning with a group of students holding placards demanding the university administration to change its decision and allow them pay the fairly.
They tried to storm the office of the VC Sentamu but were blocked by police. “Dumba must go ,Dumba must go ” they chanted while chasing other students to join them.
Business had come to a standstill and lectures had stopped by press time.
There is even heavy deployment around the university main building ,the main gate and near the Library.
