18 Makerere University students who were arrested on Monday  have been remanded to Luzira Prisons until February 25.

The  students who are remanded at Luzira Prison include ;The  Guild President Ivan Kata, Jacob Eyeru, Peter Lowestein, Paul Kiggundu, Peter Sensalo, Lionel Muhwezi, Clinton Kanyali, Gloria Katushabe, Emmanuel Nyiro, Samuel Kanamuwanje, and Gordon Lule

Others are Henry Kizito, Jack Obonyi, Kenneth Obuwro, Ronald Kawoya, Charles Waluganda, Gilbert Turyazibwe and Hassan Wasswa.

The 18 students appeared before Grade One Magistrate ,Esther Rebecca NaNsambu at Law Development Center (LDC) court on Wednesday. They were charged with unlawful behavior, violence, intimidation and inciting violence.

The magistrate said the students had a case to answer because they participated in riots, which is contrary to Section 67 of the Penal Code Act.

Meanwhile  Bernard Luyiga the university’s LC V councilor released on a  bond of  sh100, 000 cash and his sureties 10m non cash.

The other students who applied for bail through lawyers Shifrah Lukwago, Yusuf kilumba and Asuman Basalirwa failed to get bail because they were brought to court late.

The Magistrate  remanded the students to Luzira until  February 25.
