Councilors of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) have been directed to refund the money they have been receiving despite not attending council meetings.
The councilors refused to attend council meeting due to various reasons and according to KCCA committee, they should be able to refund the sh3.5m they received for the meetings they have not been sitting for.
Mukono Municipality MP, Betty Nambooze, who is also on the committee said being a councilor is not a job therefore they do not receive monthly payments. “As a committee, we have decided that they should bring that money back although it has not been implemented. Everyone who signed for that money should bring it back. It has happened before in Rukungiri district,” Nambooze said.
However, they have not stated how far back the councilors should consider refunding the payments.
Each time there is a council meeting, they are paid sh3.5m.
