The EAC Arts and Culture Festival dubbed JAMAFEST ,has heated up Kigali .
The festival, which is the first of its kind in the region is called Jumiiya ya Afrika Mashariki Utamaduni (JAMAFEST).It was opened on Tuesday and will run in Kigali, Rwanda to 17th February 2013 .
It is running under the theme; “Fostering East African Community Integration through Cultural Industries”.
Speaking on behalf of the chairperson of the Council of Ministers, Ugandan State Minister for Culture Rukia Nakadama called for a special focus on enhancing skills and competence of cultural practitioners and stakeholders involved in the creation, production, distribution, marketing and management of cultural goods and services to fully exploit the economic potential of the regional cultural assets and creativity.
The festival will among others; provide a platform to showcase culture as a primary driver of regional integration and sustainable development; bring together East African Cultural practitioners and administrators to celebrate the rich and diverse cultural heritage of East Africa; provide space for intercultural dialogue among the people of East Africa and Foster the economic development of the region through creating a market for the cultural goods and services and promoting arts and culture as a tool of communication in branding the image of the East African Community.
Uganda has prepared various activities to showcase the Arts and Culture wealth of Uganda and it will be show cased in what will be called the “Uganda Village”.
