The Anti Corruption Division of the High Court is today February 4 set to hear an appeal of the imprisoned former State Minister for State Capt.Mike Mukula .
The Soroti municipality MP was on January 18 sentenced to four years in prison after he was found guilty embezzling of Shs 210m of the Global Alliance Vaccine (GAVI) funds by Chief Magistrate Irene Akankwasa .
Mukula through his lawyer Ateenyi Tibaijjuka appealed against his four year jail sentence describing it as unfair. The case will be heard on today by High Court judge, David Wangutusi.
Mukula through his lawyer claims that the Chief Magistrate Irene Akankwasa failed to properly evaluate the evidence adduced at the trial and thereby coming to a wrong and biased conclusion that he received and also stole the Shs210 million.
He adds that the trial magistrate failed to admit that the prosecution had departed from the particulars of the offense appearing in the charge sheet.
