By Lydia Nsubuga

The head teacher of Lweza primary school  Mrs Loy Natongo Bugeza  has been transferred to Kiwanga CU primary in Goma sub-county Mukono district after parents opening up a strike in her school.

Parents of Lweza Primary School, Mukono district last week demonstrated  demanding the transfer of the school head teacher.

The parents who flocked the school refused to return their children to the school until the headmistress of the school, Ms Loy Nantongo whom they accuse of mismanaging the school with her husband Mr. Joseph Bugeza has been removed.

The parents accused Ms Nantongo of corruption due to lack of accountability, subjecting their children to corporal punishments which they claim affected the pupil’s performance in the recent PLE exams.

Led by the Chairman PTA, Mr. Daniel Kawesa, the parents said since last year, they have been demanding for the transfer of Ms. Nantongo from the school but nothing had changed.

“We started demanding for her transfer since last year but nothing had changed. We could not  bear her presence in this school anymore. The woman is corrupt. She has joined effort with her husband to swindle school funds leaving it in a poor state. Our children are beaten like animals, she kisses her husband  in the presence of the pupils” Mr. Kawesa said.

Adding: ” The performance in the last year’s PLE results is also very poor. She claims we got 12 candidates in Division One yet in the real sense we had only two because the other ten were brought in from private schools.”

Some of the teachers we talked to who did not want to reveal their names to the press alleged that the headmistress takes them for granted. They also said that in most cases when they make mistakes, she just humiliates them in public something they say is not proper before the pupils.

Whoever the District Education officer Vicent Baraza has transferred her after hearing the parents complaints. Nantongo has been replaced with Solomon Nsubuga who has been the Head teacher at Bishop East primary school.
