The A’level results for UACE 2012 have been released by the Uganda examination body, Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) which saw an improvement in performance generally although girls performed better than boys.
More Arts students sat for the exams than Science subjects and boys performed better in Science subjects. The number of students taking math at A’level has increased.
Of the 111,456 students who sat for the examinations, 42,341 were female. According to UNEB report, absenteeism among students has decreased.
General performance improved in History, Entrepreneurship, Geography, Literature, Chemistry and Biology with more principal passes in the subjects. Performance in Economics, CRE, Islam Math, Physics and Agriculture on the other hand has reduced with math being the worst performed subject.
Despite the increase in performance, almost 50% of students who sat for their A’level examinations in Science subjects did not qualify for the UACE certificate.
Examination malpractice was reported highest in Fine Art.
2012 saw 99.3% candidates pass and qualify for UACE certificates, compared to 99.2% in 2011.
