The deputy Kampala mayor, Mr. Suleiman Kidandala is once again in the media for his salary.
According to KCCA records, the deputy mayor, who was approved last year has not yet been paid since he took office. Minister for the Presidency & Minister for Kampala Capital City Authority, Frank Tumwebaze said he does not know why Kidandala has not been paid yet but will find out soon.
“I am going to consult with the Attorney General and see what went wrong then i will direct that he be paid,” Mr Tumwebaze said. However, it is said that Mr. Kidandala has not been paid because there is no minute showing that he was approved by the KCCA council as the deputy mayor.
Kidandala was appointed by the Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago himself. He was an office administrator at the DP head office during John Ssebaana Kizito’s party presidency. He was chosen out of the 31 councilors to be the deputy mayor. Section 9(3) of the KCCA Act gives the Lord Mayor the authority to appoint his or her deputy either from among the councilors or from any of the following professional bodies: the Uganda Law Society, Uganda Medical Association, Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers, and Uganda Society of Architects.
