Florence Andiru Nebanda has won the Butaleja Woman MP elections.

Nebanda, sister to the deceased Woman MP Butaleja, Cerinah Nebanda is said to have won other candidates in virtually all sub-counties. Nebanda won her opponents with a 57.6% win with 27, 338 votes.

The voting process was said to be calm although several arrests were made mainly of opposing party, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC). Ten of FDC members were arrested including Kamuli MP, Salaamu Musumba.

Over 87, 000 people were expected to vote yesterday all over the 151 polling stations in the district. There were five candidates vying for the seat; Betty Hamba (Independent), Felista Namwihiri (FDC) and Perusi Munaba (Independent), Florence Nebanda Andiru (NRM) and Sarah Annet Logose (Independent). Betty Hamba scooped the 2nd position in the elections with 25.6% of the votes totaling up to 12, 157 votes while Logose came in at the third place with 7.1% of the votes.

FDC’s Felista had 6.7% votes 3, 602 votes while Munaba had only 2.8% of the votes.

Two agents for each candidate vying for the seat were allowed to monitor the voting process to reduce on the likelihood of election malpractice. Five observers for each candidate were allowed in each sub-county in the district to observe the voting process.

NRM supporters in Butaleja are at the time celebrating the win with most of the supporters rejoicing over night for the win.
