The Uganda government has offered  refuge  to the 15 players from the Eritrea football team and the team doctor who absconded in the country in December during the 2012 Cecafa Tusker Senior Challenge Cup.

The Eritrean team had been beaten out of the tournament in the early stages .The players escaped from Sky Hotel where they were residing and remained in the country with reports that they were lost .Only three of the players  returned to Asmara.

The Commissioner for Refugees in the Office of the Prime Minister ,Apollo David Kazungu on Monday said that the Refugee Eligibility Committee had granted them refugee status.

The players prefer to remain in Kampala than being taken camps.
