The file of musician, Jose Chameleone over the death of Robert Karamagi who was killed at his home has been forwarded over to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) who will decide on whether he has a case to answer or not.
The Kampala South Regional Criminal Investigations Commander, Mr. Jackson Tumwine said investigations have been finalized into the alleged murder of Karamagi and need the guidance of the DPP to proceed. “As Police, the matter is out of our hands. We are only waiting for the DPP’s advice on the file, wherefrom we shall have the right action to take forward,” Mr Tumwine said.
The DPP, Mr Richard Butera, confirmed receiving the file saying “We are yet to look into the file and advise Police appropriately. As of now, not much can be discussed about the file because we shall advise Police and it will take action thereof as advised.”
Joseph Mayanja, commonly referred to as Jose Chameleone is accused of murdering Robert Karamagi, a supposed fan who went to his house but was instead beaten up and burnt alive. He later died from his injuries in Mulago hospital. The first story that broke was that Karamagi was a thief with the intention of killing Chameleone’s wife, Daniella Atim Mayanja. However, he allegedly poured on himself petrol by mistake and set himself on fire.
Investigations however showed that it was the boys in the home of Chameleone who beat up the boy, poured on him the paraffin and set him afire. Witnesses said they saw the boys beat up Karamagi and pouring the petrol on him.
If the DPP finds a case to answer, Chameleone will be arrested pending trial in courts of law.
