The Constitutional Court  has thrown out an application by the Human Rights Network for Journalists Uganda (HRNJ-U) and another CSO  seeking  to block UCC’s  action of switching off all unregistered sim cards by March 1 ,2013.

During a court session on Monday afternoon ,Justice Eldad Mwangusya ruled that the application for an injunction by the Human Rights Network for Journalists was not formally filed in court and could not be accepted by court. He added that the application was not submitted in time.

Meanwhile , the Uganda Communication Commission insists on its set deadline .It argues that all unregistered sim cards will be switched off by March 1st since the  exercise is aimed curbing  illegal and criminal use of telephones .

The case will be heard again on May 2.
