The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says there is a Ugandan conman impersonating as the minister of Foreign affairs,Sam Kutesa .
The ministry says ,a man identified as Mr. Ssekweyama with other unidentified people are scamming unsuspecting Ugandans with relatives serving prison sentences in the People’s Republic of China for several offences.
“”The Ministry has seen a copy of a forged Diplomatic Note, Ref: MOA 9/372/013 dated 4th January, 2013 that has been circuited to several people, ostensibly signed for, and on behalf of Hon. Sam K. Kutesa, Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Note alleges that some twenty seven (27) Ugandans serving prison sentences in China are the first batch that has been agreed to be extradited to serve their remaining sentences in Uganda. It further alleges that the extradition has been discussed and agreed by the Government of Uganda and the respective relatives.” the ministry says in a release issued yesterday
The ministry says ,other related documents seen are demanding for USD 3,800.00 as a stay fine, and another USD 2,000.00 for flight costs and inland transport.
It warns all Ugandans here in Uganda and in China that the group is not doing the work on behalf of the foreign affairs ministry.
“The Ministry wishes to inform the general public that, the Government of Uganda is not at all aware of this extradition arrangement and did not author the Note referenced above which is in circulation. If there is ever any official agreement reached on this matter, the information will be provided to the public.”
The statement adds that Mr. Ssekweyama has attempted or scammed people using the Minister’s name and Office.
“He has severally conned unsuspecting people through false pretence, including mimicking the Minister’s voice. Usually, he uses the following telephone numbers: 0701755555; 0782998616 and 0751723612.” reads the minster’s statement
