Officials from Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) have been put to task to explain how they paid 5.4 billion shillings to a private firm called Kampala Associated advocates to collect 54 billion debts yet Government had committed itself to pay the money.

Appearing before the Parliamentary committee on Commissions, Statutory Athourity and State Enterprises (COSASE) Chaired by Kumi County MP Patrick Amuriat, MPs discovered that Cabinet had committed to pay the debt but to a surprise, CAA went ahead to hire Kampala Associated Advocates which members MPs said was suspicious.

The Chairperson of the committee Patrick Amuriat said that tax payer’s money was put to waste to collect a debt when there was assurance from government to pay the said debt.

Civil Aviation Authority had secured a loan of 54 billion shillings from Spain to improve the infrastructure at Entebbe Air Port in preparation for 2007 CHOGM and Government has since paid back the money
