The declaration came after the National Forestry Authority (NFA) cut down the resident’s gardens as they were being evicted from government forest reserves. NFA officials claimed that the residents were given a deadline to vacate the land but did not adhere to the warning.
Gardens belonging to many on over 50 acres of government land were dismantled and food stolen belonging to the residents of Butambala district. The affected areas were in Kayenje and Nakayanja, among others.
Residents even blamed Ramadhan Walugembe the Resident District Commissioner and district head of security for failing to help them while they were being evicted mercilessly.
