As the Ministry of Health makes HIV testing compulsory for every Ugandan, it is also seeking to make breast and cervical cancer screenings compulsory to all pregnant women.

The commissioner for clinical services, Dr. Jacinto Amandua said cancer screening for all women who go for antenatal will be mandatory in a bid to reduce on the increased cases in the country.

This week Monday February 4th was World Cancer day and according to statistics, in Uganda, the most common type of cancer is breast and cervical cancer. While raising awareness, the theme this year was “Cancer – Did you know?” focusing on the World Cancer Declaration: Dispel damaging myths and misconceptions about cancer. Last year, the day was observed under the theme,  ‘Together it is possible’ to encourage the general public, government and organizations to be a part of the event and also spread and share the message.
