Former FDC leader Kizza Besigye says that he is ready to petition the International Criminal Court (ICC) over the role of government in the two decade – Lords Resistance Army in Northern Uganda.
He criticizes the ICC for dwelling on the crimes committed by the LRA rebels and their leader Joseph Kony leaving out those by the role of government.
“We have always been calling for an investigation by the International Criminal Court (ICC). In fact, the ICC failed in its duty when they investigated and indicted leaders of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) by not investigating their protagonist because atrocities were not only committed by the LRA,” Dr Besigye said in an exclusive interview with the Daily Monitor last week
Kony and some of his rebels are still being hunted in the Central African Republic with other reports that he is in Darfur,South Sudan. The United Nations Security Council has stressed the need for continued coordination between peacekeeping missions, as well as humanitarian, development, gender, child-protection and military actors in the subregion in order to protect civilians from attacks by the LRA.
