Alec Baldwin and wife, 28-year-old Hilaria Thomas are expecting their first child together, they have confirmed.

Thomas is due in summer 2013. She announced, quite excitedly that she was expecting during her show, ‘Extra’ in which she is a lifestyle correspondent. “We’re having a baby! It was a surprise, a wonderful surprise,” she said.

Thomas first took her pregnancy test without telling her husband, but later on told him. “There’s a scream I heard, which is a scream normally reserved if there’s a spider in the house, not exaggerating,” Baldwin said. “Normally, I will be reading a book. We’re in the country, it’s quiet, some time to really relax and unwind and sometimes, once a month, you hear ‘Ahhh, Alec, Alec!’ I come upstairs, and there’s a spider on the wall. So then I hear that scream again, but it was not a spider.”

“It was followed by ‘I’m pregnant, I’m pregnant!’” Thomas continued. “He runs up the stairs and I’m holding it [the test] and showing it to him.”

“We can joke all about it, but it’s honestly the most amazing moment,” added Baldwin. “We are really sharing something special.”

An excited Thomas said, “Now, I’m showing, it’s getting to be much more, like ‘OMG this is actually going to happen!’ Now we can start the nursery, the everything, the dreaming.”

Baldwin, 54, has one daughter, Ireland, from his previous marriage to actress Kim Basinger. The former “30 Rock” star wed Thomas in  June 2012.
