Acholi religious leaders’ peace initiative- a nongovernmental Organization is preparing to hold a peace week in Kitgum district.
The Peace week has been celebrated annually since the LRA Insurgency led by Joseph Kony begun in northern Uganda.
The week is commemorated through analyzing the challenges facing the attainment of peace and how the prevailing peace is should be retained.
Reconciliation is one of the issues to be looked at during this year’s peace week which starts from 8th to 12th April 2013 at Christ the King Parish in Kitgum town.
Dr. Luka Nyeko the Kitgum district L.C 5 chairman welcomed this year’s focus and said that the district is fully supporting the initiatives.
The peace week will involve people from Acholi sub region, Lango sub region and west Nile region from the different religious denominations.
Last year the peace week was held at Nebbi district in west Nile.
Joseph Kony and his rebels are still being hunted in the Central African Republic with some reports that he could be hiding in Darfur,South Sudan .
