A 9-year-old girl in Mexico last week gave birth to a baby girl.

Her baby’s father is a 17-year-old boy who is at the time being hunted by Mexican authorities.

Both mother and daughter are doing well according to the Jalisco state police spokesman, Lino Gonzalez. The girl gave birth in the city of Guadalajara.

The family of the girl alerted authorities after she gave birth saying they have not seen the boy since. The boy and girl live in the same neighborhood. If it is proven by DNA that the boy is father to the child, he could face charges.

However, Gonzalez said the girl told authorities that the father of her baby was her boyfriend.

A 9-year-old girl in Mexico has reportedly given birth.

The girl was identified as “Dafne” by The Telegraph and became pregnant at 8 years old. She gave birth to a 5.7 pound baby by cesarean section on Jan. 27 in Zoquipan Hospital in Jalisco, an area in western Mexico.

“The father is a boy who is 17, but we have not found him, since he ran away,” the mother of the girl told officials.

Both mother and daughter were released from the hospital over the weekend but the hospital said it would have to do extensive follow-up due to the new mother’s age.
