A set of twins, a boy and girl, were burnt to death in their house in Kalungu, Masaka yesterday night.
The twins were left behind by their parents who went to the twin’s grandparents as they prepared for their 50th marriage anniversary. They were doing house chores ahead of the party. It is assumed that the couple left the children in the house and locked them with a local lantern which uses paraffin. It is believed that the children knocked down the lantern, spilled the paraffin and set the house on fire.
They were aged 8 months and could crawl. A nearby school in Kalungu brought a fire extinguisher to put out the fire but by the time the fire had been put out, the children had already been burnt to death. Their bodies remained burnt beyond recognition.
At the moment, the residents are still waiting for a doctor to come and examine the body before being taken to a mortuary and burial thereafter.
The tragedy took place at 9pm.
