There has been a series of crimes in Gulu district during this Festive season.

On the 31st of December 2012, the police in Gulu district arrested a 35 year old man, a resident of Cubu sub ward in Pece division, which is in Gulu municipality over the allegation of killing his wife Lillian Layet.

The officer in charge of crimes at the Gulu Central Police station, James Asubu told the press in Gulu that Acire killed the wife after accusing her of having an extra marital affair.

Asubu says Acire killed the wife on Thursday at around 9pm and later dumped the body in a nearby bush and later on reported to the police that his wife was missing.

Asubu added that the police swung in action and found Acire’s wife dumped in a nearby bush near his home.

Asubu also explained that when Acire’s house was searched, they found a lot of blood on the floor and a knife with some blood stains which they suspect must have been used by Acire for carrying the murder.

Acire is under the police custody and will be produced in court and charged with murder if found guilty.

On New Year 2013, Anywar Christopher a resident of Kasubi parish in Bardege division was arrested by the police in Gulu for allegedly stubbing his wife, Aciro Betty.

Anywar is suspected to have stubbed his wife on the neck leading to her death after she started struggling to snatch money he had grabbed from her which she had obtained after selling stones for construction.

The Officer in charge of crimes at the Gulu central police station James Asubu says Aciro died while in Gulu regional referral hospital.

Asubu also explains that the knife which is suspected to have been used to stab Aciro was found outside the roof of their grass thatched house.

On the same date also, the chairman LC I for Opit Village in Lalogi sub County in Gulu district was found dead after a drinking spree for 2 days.

The Gulu District Police Commander Aquinas Oyet said that Joseph Okello was found dead on a road side at around 3am on the 1st of January 2013 by residents in Lalogi sub County.

Oyet said that they are carrying out the investigation to find the cause of the death of the Opit Chairman LC I.
